The Angelo Foundation in Present Tense

As was announced through Facebook, in the opening of the exhibition In Present Tense the Angelo Foundation was inaugurated, the new installation of Angelo Plessas.

Το ίδιο το ίδρυμα διοικείται από επταμελές διοικητικό συμβούλιο το οποίο αποτελείται από τον καλλιτέχνη και από έξι φανταστικά πρόσωπα, τους: Oliver Rollover, Rolland Percent, Leo Sky, Roy Avital, Bombs and the Boys, Vilma Page.

In its foundational aims it is mentioned that the Foundation intends to “be active in socio-cultural issues, with a clear focus on culture, the internet and future”. These issues are related to the use, study and dis-incrimination of the internet as a medium of communication and social interaction as well as with the organization of events which aim to promote the foundation and its goals. The foundation itself is administered by a seven member administrative board composed of the artist and six imaginary persons: Oliver Rollover, Rolland Percent, Leo Sky, Roy Avital, Bombs and the Boys, Vilma Page.

All these persons are in Facebook and come from the artist’s websites and from his internet works, such as:

In the exhibition In Present Tense, the Angelo Foundation is presented as an installation which resembles a medieval-style military tent. All of the objects in the installation, along with the centrally positioned throne of its founder Angelo, are reminiscent of a knight’s tent in a medieval military campaign. From there, the foundation promotes its aims and attracts supporters.

The viewer is called upon to enter the interior of the tent, where he or she will meet its creator – not personally, but through the aesthetics and ideologies he proclaims – as is the case in social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace. Inside the installation there is printed material which defines the aims of the foundation, presents its founder (the artist) and its imaginary executive members.

The program with the events which will be organized in the framework of the foundation will be announced shortly.
